
All along the visit to the Iguazú National Park and the Waterfalls Area, the visitor will be able to perceive the marked influence that the Guaraní culture has left in the region until today.
The fascinating customs and history of this ethnic group punished by the European conquer still remain in the region. The members of this community offer their crafts inside the park in their condition of first inhabitants of what they call “the Land without evil”.
The forest means much more than their habitat for the Guaraní people. It is a mythological place that provides not only the necessary for their life on Earth but a special cosmogony based on the balance between men and nature.
Basically contemplative, the Guaraní religion accepts the existence of a unique God: Tupá. They lacks of idols, they believe in the immortality of the soul and the wandering demons “Añáes”. The divinities explained the phenomena of nature and life. The wicked spirits that populate this large Guaraní region exist to punish those who depredate the forest destroying their natural resources.
They also believe in the Caari Porá, a celestial soul that becomes a boar to attack the hunters that depredate the forest aimlessly.
